Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown recount the experiences of Africans and African Americans in early Virginia, from the first known Africans in 1619 to the role of African Americans in the Revolutionary War through immersive gallery exhibits, rare artifacts and dramatic films. 

During Black History Month in February, permanent gallery exhibits blend with special programs. Jamestown Settlement’s annual Black Artist Showcase will be on extended view during the month connecting the past and present through vivid intersections of contemporary art and 17th-century history. The artworks, created by professional Virginia-based artists, celebrates modern African American life and culture.
